Defiance College will conduct a fastpitch softball clinic in North Ridgeville at Shady Drive Park on Sunday, October 1, 2006. The clinic, sponsored by North Coast Spirit Softball, is open to both beginners and advanced players, grades 3 thru 12 and will run for 4 hours (Noon until 4:00 PM). Anyone registering by Sept. 17 will receive a clinic T-shirt. Cost for the clinic is $30.00. Special: Take $5 off registration fee after Sept. 17 for T-Shirt allowance. The clinic will cover proper swing mechanics, provide drills to improve hitting skills as well as provide observations while batting. The clinic will also cover proper throwing technique and fielding mechanics as well as providing drills to improve these skills. Each participant is required to bring her own bat, glove and softball shoes or gym shoes to wear at the clinic. Parents are welcome to attend all lecturing. Please mark your bat on the knob for ID purposes and inside your glove. In the event of rain, 75% of the fees will be refunded if the clinic is completely rained out or only 1 hour is completed. Jodie Holava, Head Coach at Defiance College, will conduct the clinic and will be assisted by Assistant Defiance College Coach Amanda Hayman. Holava is a former North Coast Spirit coach and Lorain County resident. During her first season at Defiance College, the team finished 29-15 with five All-Conference, one All-Regional, and five All-Academic honorees. An alumna of Mount Union College, Holava was named All-Ohio Athletic Conference and All-Central Region on a Raider team that won the OAC in 1998. Hayman is a graduate of Northwood University (MI) where she excelled in both softball and volleyball. Hayman received All-Conference recognition as a second baseman. North Coast Spirit personnel will be on hand to provide additional assistance.
